AKP Phnom Penh, August 27, 2026 -- Malaysia’s Parliament President Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul has pledged to continue promoting and strengthening bilateral cooperation with Cambodia, stressing that relations between the two countries are moving in the right direction and benefiting their peoples.

The commitment was made during his meeting with Prime Minister Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Aug. 27.

During the meeting, H.E. Johari praised Cambodia for its successful hosting of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2) and spoke highly of the progress made in Malaysia-Cambodia relations and bilateral cooperation.

He said the relations between the two countries were developing in the right direction and had brought various benefits to their peoples. Malaysia, he reaffirmed, would continue working to make the bilateral partnership more developed and stronger.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for the progress of relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia across various fields. He highlighted the notable growth in bilateral trade and said the two countries still had significant potential to further expand their cooperation.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in key areas, including trade and investment, healthcare, education and vocational training, tourism, energy, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI).

They also underscored the importance of cooperation and complementarity between the legislative and executive institutions in addressing emerging challenges effectively and contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei once again expressed his appreciation to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for helping facilitate the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration reached on Oct. 26, 2025.

The Cambodian Prime Minister also briefed the Malaysian Parliament President on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries.
