AKP Phnom Penh, August 27, 2026 -- Delegates and legislative leaders from various countries have highly praised Cambodia for its successful hosting of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2) in Phnom Penh, while strongly supporting the conference’s focus on peace, international law and peaceful settlement of disputes.

During the General Debate held in Phnom Penh on Thursday afternoon under the co-chairmanship of H.E. Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia, and H.E. Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Founding Chairman of ISC and Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, the participants had expressed their appreciation for Cambodia’s organisation of the conference, describing the event as successful and vibrant, H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate, told reporters in a press briefing. 

He said the participants strongly supported the conference theme, “Solidarity for Peace, Common Prosperity, Strengthening International Law and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”

According to H.E. Chea Thirith, participants agreed that the theme was particularly relevant to the current global situation, amid challenges related to respect for international law.

The conference also highlighted and commended Cambodia’s “Win-Win Policy” under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Techo Hun Sen, which brought an end to the country’s civil war and ushered in nearly 28 years of peace.

Participants regarded Cambodia’s experience as a valuable lesson for the international community in addressing conflicts and promoting lasting peace.

The discussions further called on participating legislatures to strengthen solidarity and jointly advocate for governments around the world to uphold international law and resolve disputes through peaceful means as a way to safeguard global stability.

During the General Debate, Senate First Vice President H.E. Ouch Borith also stressed that lasting peace requires leaders of legislative institutions to work together with governments to ensure stability and peace.

According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, H.E. Ouch Borith emphasised that only through solidarity and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each state can lasting peace be maintained in the region and around the world.

The discussions also provided an opportunity for legislative leaders to exchange experiences, recognising that countries have different experiences in addressing national challenges and resolving conflicts.

H.E. Ouch Borith further underscored the important role of legislative institutions in working collectively to encourage governments to return to the principles of international law and peaceful dispute resolution.

The conference’s discussions thus reaffirmed the shared commitment of participating legislatures to promoting peace, stability, respect for sovereignty and international law, and peaceful cooperation among nations.
