Phnom Penh is set to welcome a massive new 75-hectare public park and recreational area in the Boeung Tamok region to promote public health and expand green spaces in the capital.

Speaking at the official inauguration ceremony of the Luang Me Hospital on Wednesday morning, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet announced that tree-planting efforts at the site are already 80 percent complete following extensive land reclamation involving millions of cubic metres of soil.

"We are establishing a large public park at Boeung Tamok for the benefit of our citizens," Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said, noting that despite high commercial interest and inquiries regarding the land, the Royal Government remains firm on preserving the site as a public recreational zone rather than selling it.

The Prime Minister added that Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng has been overseeing the ongoing greening efforts to create an eco-friendly public facility. Once completed, the area will serve as a key venue for exercise, leisure, and outdoor sports, relieving congestion from other popular public spaces across the capital.

The development aligns with the municipal administration’s broader urban growth strategy.

During the official launch of the Phnom Penh Tourism Development Plan 2026–2030 in August, Governor Khuong Sreng highlighted the 75-hectare northwestern park initiative alongside another nearly completed 3-hectare recreational zone in the western district of the capital.
