Two Cambodian journalists are participating in a special training course on War Journalism in Ankara, Türkiye, aimed at strengthening their reporting skills in emergency situations and enhancing their knowledge of personal safety techniques in areas affected by armed conflicts.

The international-level training course is jointly organised by Türkiye’s state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), and the Turkish National Police Academy. The programme has brought together journalists and reporters from various countries around the world, including representatives from Cambodia.

The training is designed to prepare participants to respond to unforeseen dangers and provides intensive theoretical and practical training on a range of important topics. These include safety and survival techniques, such as escaping gunfire, protection against chemical weapons and landmines, and surviving in areas where food supplies are scarce; first aid, including basic life-saving techniques on the battlefield, bleeding control, and the emergency evacuation of injured people; war psychology, including managing psychological and emotional pressure under stressful or life-threatening conditions; and journalistic ethics, including responsible and impartial reporting and respect for human rights during conflicts.

The Cambodian journalists expressed particular interest in the practical exercises, which include simulations designed to resemble real battlefield conditions. The experience not only helps them better understand the importance of personal safety but also strengthens their confidence in collecting and verifying information accurately, enabling them to serve as a bridge in delivering truthful information to the public.

The participation of Cambodian journalists in this global-level programme represents an important step toward enhancing journalism in Cambodia to meet competitive standards and promote greater preparedness and caution. The skills gained are expected to be useful not only in covering wars but also in reporting on natural disasters and other crises.

The two Cambodian journalists selected to participate in the significant training course are Mr. Yea Chendakhantey from the state-run Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) and Mr. Him Karuna from the National Television of Cambodia (TVK).

The special War Journalism training course is being held in Ankara, Türkiye, from Sept. 14 to 25, 2026.
