AEON Promotes Cambodian GI Products to Support Local Producers
AKP Phnom Penh, August 27, 2026 --
With support and cooperation from the Ministry of Commerce, the Department of Commerce, the Geographical Indication (GI) Product Association, AEON has introduced and promoted Cambodian GI products at its supermarkets, contributing to local communities and providing customers with authentic, high-quality Cambodian products.
Geographical Indication (GI) products are products that are registered and protected under a geographical indication label based on their reputation and distinctive characteristics.
These products have a clearly defined origin from a specific geographical area and are closely linked to the location, climate, technical know-how, and craftsmanship of that region.
Customers shopping at AEON can now experience a selection of Cambodia’s GI products, including Kampot Pepper, Kampot Fish Sauce, Kampot Salt, Koh Trung Pomelo, Mondulkiri Wild Honey, and other products.
This initiative, kicked off since Aug. 24, aligns with AEON’s mission to contribute to the development of the local economy while delivering safe, high-quality products to customers.
“Through this initiative, AEON offers customers more than just products—it delivers a story of origin, culture, and authenticity,” the Mall said.
“Each GI product reflects the identity of its region, allowing customers to connect with Cambodia’s heritage through every purchase,” it added.
According to AEON, the initiative reflects its commitment to contributing to local economic development while providing customers with safe and high-quality products.
The initiative reflects broader efforts to transform Cambodia’s unique agricultural products and traditional knowledge into higher-value products while ensuring that the benefits of GI development reach local producers and communities.
The development of GI products is considered important for strengthening the competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural and food products, as GI certification helps link products with their geographical origin, traditional production methods and distinctive qualities.
The Ministry of Commerce has continued to register potential Cambodian products under the GI system.
In April 2026, four additional products were officially registered as GI products, marking another step in strengthening the reputation and identity of Cambodian products, protecting the intellectual property rights of producer communities and creating greater potential for international registration in the future.
