Temporary Exhibition in Beijing Showcases 122 Khmer Ancient Artefacts
AKP Phnom Penh, May 01, 2026 -- A temporary exhibition titled “Meet Angkor Wat: Treasures from the National Museum of Cambodia” officially opened on April 30 at the Meet You Museum in Beijing, China, showcasing 122 Khmer ancient artefacts.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and President of the Inter-Ministerial Committee responsible for coordinating, evaluating, and overseeing Khmer antiquities exhibited abroad.
The exhibition features a curated collection of 122 artefacts on loan from the National Museum of Cambodia, representing centuries of artistic and religious development. The display offers visitors a closer look at the craftsmanship that defined the Angkorian era and subsequent periods.
Running from May 1 to Aug. 30, 2026, the exhibition aims to promote Khmer culture and attract more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia, according to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
The event is organised through cooperation between Art Exhibitions China and the Meet You Museum, with support from Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
“This event reflects the success of promoting Khmer culture through the mechanism of lending artefacts for overseas exhibitions,” the Ministry underlined.
The Ministry also recalled that the exhibition was previously held at the South China Sea Museum in Hainan province for three months, attracting approximately 513,000 visitors, demonstrating strong interest among Chinese audiences in Khmer culture and history.
According to the Ministry, the exhibition is part of a mobile programme that will be showcased at several museum venues across China.
