Indonesia has expressed its full support for Cambodia’s hosting of the International Conference on Combating Online Scams, scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh from Sept. 23 to 24, 2026.

The support was conveyed by H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, during a meeting with H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Chairman of the Secretariat of the Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS), in Phnom Penh on July 28.

During the meeting, H.E. Chhay Sinarith spoke highly of the increasingly strengthened relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Indonesia, particularly in combating online scams.

He briefed the Indonesian side on the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment to combating online scams through the establishment of the CCOS, the Law on Combating Technology-enabled Scams, and other key legal instruments. These measures have contributed to the effective implementation of campaigns to crack down on and dismantle online scam networks.

In this regard, Cambodia will host the International Conference on Combating Online Scams in Phnom Penh on Sept. 23-24 to share experiences and discuss additional effective measures to combat this global crime. H.E. Chhay Sinarith requested Indonesia’s support and participation in sharing its experiences at the important event.

In response, H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno expressed appreciation to Cambodian authorities for their cooperation, support and assistance in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens involved in online scams.

He highly valued the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to combat online scams and commended the results of Cambodian authorities’ operations to crack down on and dismantle online scam activities. He also described the establishment of the Law on Combating Technology-enabled Scams as a significant new milestone.

The Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister stressed that online scam crime is a complex global issue requiring international cooperation to dismantle the global scam ecosystem. Indonesia stands ready to support Cambodia in strengthening law enforcement capacity and enhancing broader cooperation in combating online scams.

He reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for Cambodia’s hosting of the International Conference on Combating Online Scams, saying the initiative demonstrates Cambodia’s determination to transform itself from a country affected by online scam activities into one of the leading countries in combating this global crime.

The two sides also exchanged views on ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly through information exchange and sharing, as well as training and capacity building for specialised officials to enhance the effectiveness of efforts to combat online scams.
