MAFF Boosts Commercial Cassava Production and Exports
AKP Phnom Penh, January 07, 2025 —
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina has called on the Cambodia Cassava Association to make efforts in commercialising cassava production and expanding local processing capabilities as well as increasing exports of processing cassava production.
H.E. Minister made the call while receiving a courtesy call here on Jan. 6 from the Cassava Federation of Cambodia President Chray Son. He recommended the federation to develop a specific strategic plan to maintain market stability and encourage the federation to continue to collaborate with the relevant parties to work together to solve challenges and provide benefits to farmers.
Currently, the ministry has promoted the establishment of modern agricultural communities that have clear production plans, supplies, technical standards, and markets through contract farming. Cassava is a potential agricultural subsidiary crop, along with rice, cashew nuts, corn, longan, banana, mango and pepper for exports, which has contributed to Cambodia's economic growth.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has established the National Cassava Policy 2020-2025, which was officially disseminated in January 2021 after being approved by the government in August 2020. The National Cassava Policy 2020-2025 aims to make Cambodia a reliable production, processing and supplier of cassava products to boost exports to the world markets.
Cambodia exported US$622 million worth of cassava to foreign markets in the first 11 months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 13.42 percent, an official report showed.
